Kia Gets Awards Across the Board in J.D. Power 2022 APEAL Study
Vision, Savvy Market Strategy Earns Kia J.D. Power Recognition
The South Korean carmaker’s bold vision has achieved acclaim, having swept J.D. Power’s 2022 APEAL Study awards. Kia’s balanced blend of traditional and electric models has found a receptive market and led to successful sales figures. Such success is making the automotive industry take notice.
Kia Claims Three J.D. Power Awards
Kia’s first full-on electric vehicle, the EV6, took first place in the Compact SUV segment, a success that was duplicated by Kia’s K5, which won the midsize car niche, and Carnival MPV, which took first in the minivan segment. Such a range of vehicles would seem to affirm the strength of Kia’s innovative design ethos. These awards also acknowledge the initial success and further potential of Kia’s electrification strategy, known as “Plan S.”
The J.D. Power APEAL awards assess new-vehicle owners’ overall satisfaction in their initial three months of ownership. Owners score40 individual attributes. An aggregate is determined, and an overall score is awarded based on a 1,000-point scale. Kia’s success in the 2022 APEAL awards announcement comes on the heels of the Kia Forte’s recent recognition as number one in J.D. Power’s compact car Initial Quality Study.
Long-Term Strategy Paying Off
Steven Center, COO, and EVP of Kia America, pointed to the role the carmaker’s overarching global strategy played in its J.D. Power APEAL contest success. Center noted Kia’s intention of becoming a leader in the global electrification movement, indicating that Kia’s achievement in earning such notice for a long-term plan is proof that that strategy is already paying dividends.
An Inclination to Innovate
Kia’s inclination to innovate is typified by the EV6, a sleek, sporty compact SUV that can go from zero to 60 in approximately five seconds. The EV6 began raking in the honors even before the J.D. Power awards were announced: It earned a spot among Ward’s 10 Best Interiors and UX Award (Kia’s Seltos SUV won the same award previously).
The Kia EV6 is a solid overall value, with a stylish, sporty interior and innovative controls that maximize space. It also boasts sumptuous seating and materials that make the vehicle nearly as comfortable as it is technologically advanced.
Perhaps none of Kia’s new vehicles emphasize the automaker’s knack for innovation, quite like the Carnival MPV. Officially in the minivan category, Kia has aggressively marketed it as a multi-purpose vehicle, something a little too big to be a true minivan and which is, in truth, more like an SUV in its shape, size, and performance.
